1. Welding Application - Equipment Repair Shop

Application: Welding/Maintenance facility performed year round fabrication/repair tasks on heavy construction and road maintenance equipment. Project involved system upgrade to new, self-cleaning cartridge filter system with source capture fume extraction arms that replaced manual clean, ambient bag filter system. Upgraded system combines source capture plan with fume extraction arms and vertical flow ambient smoke control with ceiling located air intakes and low, sidewall clean air discharge. This combined plan provides source capture for continuous, heavy smoke production locations and constant vertical air movement for difficult to access source capture locations.

Filtration Equipment: Two Donaldson/Torit Downflo Oval Model DFO 2-8 Continuous Duty Pulse Jet Type Cartridge Filter Dust Collectors, each with TBI-10 Blowers Four AirFlow Systems Model 7E10 Self-supported fume extraction arms with pivoting booms. Easy Duct Clamping duct material.

Special Equipment: Donaldson/Torit Delta P Filter Cleaning Control

2. Welding Smoke Application—Stainless Steel / Portable Filtration

Application: Stainless steel fabricator required source weld fume ventilation for particulates and hexavalent chrome. Portable equipment allowed for ease of system movement throughout the job shop along with source capture of particulate.

3. Welding Smoke Capture—Fab Shop

Application: Pipe fabrication shop generated heavy amounts of welding smoke and grinding dust from fabrication of piping fittings. Large weldments required several different lengths of fume arms reach to cover entire shop area. Portable unit was moved to shop areas not covered by arms. Operator breathing zones were isolated and protected.

Filtration Equipment: Two AirFlow Systems Model 7E10 Self-Supported 10 ft. Long 7" Diameter Fume Extraction Arms and Blower Model BM-12, 3 hp; One Airflow Systems Model PC Portable Cartridge Filter Air Cleaner with 7E10 Fume Extraction Arm

Special Equipment: One Fume Arm used Model 14T 14 ft. Long Boom to extend arm reach to 25 ft.

4. Welding Smoke Capture—Manufacturing Application

Application: Manufacturer fabricates various sized components that required source capture over an approximate 20’ radius on several welding positions. Welding wire included solid wire and flux cored types. New system replaced manual clean ambient electrostatic air cleaners with self-cleaning pulse-jet type cartridge filters. Fume extraction arms with pivoting booms allow for easy placement of hood and provided isolation of operator breathing zones. Self-cleaning cartridge filter air cleaning equipment reduced overall system maintenance costs.

Application: Mining repair shop performed welding and fabrication throughout large shop area on work tables and equipment. Ambient filtration handled main area, extractor arms provide source capture.

6. Welding Smoke Collection—Shaft and Motor Repair

Application: Welding smoke generated from repair of various shaft and motor components. Tight physical requirements limited equipment selection. Use of compact, high efficiency SDF Series collector fit into space and provided adequate airflow. Source capture fume extraction arms captured smoke at operator breathing zone.

8. Welding Smoke / Grinding Dust Removal

Application: Road Construction/Company repair shop required removal of airborne weld smoke and grinding dust generated from repair/fabrication of construction equipment and machinery. 4-stratgeically positions fume exhaust arms provided shop coverage, contained smoke at the source of generation and protected operator breathing zones. Air was exhausted outdoors.
